Making a New Year’s resolution is the fun part, it’s keeping it that’s the hard part. We all entered 2017 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to face our resolution head on. But as the weeks (or for some of us, days) passed, work, school and other responsibilities got in the way. That might be why more than 50% of people who make a New Year’s resolution abandon it by February. Whether you have lost some motivation, or are part of the other 50% still going strong, here are some goals you can easily set for February to improve your health:
1. Exercise Regularly - Regular exercise helps to maintain a healthy weight, improve heart health, lower stress, and more! Even just walking for 30 minutes a day can help you lower your risk of certain cancers. If you don’t think you can spare the time, try simple tried and true methods that can be incorporated into your daily routine! Take the stairs instead of the elevator, set an alarm to get up and walk around your office or building, and park further from your building.
2. Quit Smoking - As you know, smoking is not only a leading cause of several cancers, but has been found to harm nearly every bodily organ and organ system. Even just MINUTES after quitting smoking your body will start seeing positive results! For example, did you know that after twenty minutes of quitting, your heart rate and blood pressure drops; twelve hours after your last cigarette the carbon monoxide levels in your blood return to normal; and two weeks after quitting smoking lung function increases and circulation improves!
3. Schedule Your Imaging Tests - Early detection for most diseases, especially cancer, can significantly reduce your risk of illness or even death.
